Everything You Need To Know About The Home Builder Grant

There’s A New Building Stimulus In Town!

We would all love to be in our newly purchased homes, hanging around our state-of-the-art countertop, wine in hand. This may seem like just a daydream for most at the moment though! I’m sure many of us long to design and build our dream home.

Around 2.6 million hard-working Australians have either lost their jobs or had their hours cut in the past two months alone. As a snowball effect of COVID-19, all industries are being negatively impacted with each day that passes.

The building industry is facing tough times! Construction has lost nearly 7% of its workforce since March. Due to this significant loss, fewer homes will be built in the coming months, which in turn means fewer jobs in the construction industry.

With one in ten Australians working in the construction industry, if it isn’t you, it’s your friends, family, neighbours and community affected. But when we are faced with difficult times, know that challenges aren’t sent to destroy us! They are sent to strengthen us! We are resilient and we will get through this together.

But all is not lost with the federal government recently announcing the homebuilder scheme stimulus package.

Let’s Talk About That Dream Home!

So how does one get their hands on some extra cash to assist in the design and build of their new or existing home?

Individuals will be entitled to this stimulus package if they build a new home or substantially renovate their current home. The homebuilder program will:

  • Assist residential home builders and include first home buyers.
  • Refresh that dated home design and substantially renovate an existing home.
  • Assist the residential construction market by encouraging the commencement of new builds and renovations.

The Nitty Gritty

This is the important part. It’s great to be offered a useful stimulus but we want to delve a little deeper. Let’s talk about the fine print to apply for homebuilder:

  • Building must commence within 3 months of signing the building contract
  • Renovations must be between $150,000 and $750,000
  • A new home is valued under $750,000.
  • Building contract date must be entered into between 4th June 2020 and 31st December 2020

When each individual State or Territory signs the National Partnership Agreement with the Commonwealth Government, those stimulus packages will come rolling in.
